The Dimensions of Hegemony
Though generally associated with the Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci, the idea of hegemony had a crucial history in revolutionary Russia where it was used to conceptualize the dynamics of political and cultural leadership. Drawing on extensive archival research, this study considers the cultural dimensions of hegemony, with particular focus on the role of language in political debates and in scholarship of the period. It is shown that considerations of the relations between the proletariat and peasantry, the cities to the countryside and the metropolitan centre to the colonies of the Russian Empire demanded an intense dialogue between practical politics and theoretical reflection, which led to critical perspectives now assumed to be the achievements of, for instance, sociolinguistics and post-colonial studies.
Instability and Variability of Hot-Star Winds
This specialized workshop was conceived during the workshop on "Non isotropic and Variable Outflows from Stars", which was held at the Space Telescope Science Institute in October, 1991. At that meeting, the four of us collectively decided that the time was ripe for an even more focussed discussion of the basic issues in the area of hot-star wind instability and its observable manifestations. A cidade-atração investiga os programas e projetos que, a partir dos anos 1990, incorporaram o patrimônio de cidades brasileiras como um ativo urbano destinado a contribuir para a transformação de quadros de desvalorização econômica e de uso e apropriação popular. Com base em processos deflagrados nas áreas centrais de Salvador, Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo, busca compreender os sentidos subjacentes à proliferação e à banalização de práticas preservacionistas e apontar outras possibilidades socialmente mais significativas de uso do patrimônio urbano.
La mujer: de los bastidores al proscenio en el teatro del siglo XVI
El present volum recull les intervencions que vint-i-un especialistes en teatre espanyol, italià i francès del segle XVI, van presentar en el Simposi Internacional que, amb el mateix títol d'aquesta obra, va tenir lloc al novembre de 2010 en la Universitat de València. Des d'una perspectiva pluridisciplinar i amb metodologies diverses, s'analitzen en elles diversos aspectes de la presència de la dona en el teatre d'aquest segle: des de la intervenció de les dones en les representacions teatrals del període, al seu paper com a mecenes i com a receptores privilegiades d'aquestes representacions. El conjunt dels estudis ací reunits ofereix, doncs, un panorama múltiple, apassionant i suggestiu del paper jugat per la dona i els personatges femenins en el teatre del segle XVI, un segle, sens dubte, crucial per a la construcció del teatre europeu modern.
