Ramon Llull in the Biblioteca de Catalunya
The Biblioteca de Catalunya and the Ministry of Culture of the Catalan Government are delighted to announce publication of the work Ramon Llull in the Biblioteca de Catalunya, now translated into English thanks to funding from the Ramon Llull Institute. This e-book introduces us to one of the most universal Catalan thinkers of all time. The e-book includes interviews - conducted by Joan Santanach - with various scholars: Lola Badia, Alexander Fidora, Amador Vega and Albert Soler, with a further contribution from Ricard Torrents, leading expert on Jacint Verdaguer. The book is complemented by readings of extracts from Llull’s texts by the aforementioned scholars and with a musical reconstruction by Antoni Rossell. The texts, by Joan Santanach, help to illustrate a number of different facets of Ramon Llull, as well as presenting a selection of the most significant manuscripts and printed books held in the Biblioteca de Catalunya. The e-book includes an updated bibliographic section. The book is free to access in EPUB format for iOS, Android and .PDF format for computer. The work is subject to a Creative Commons licence.

Phonographic Encounters
This cross-disciplinary volume illuminates the history of early phonography from a transnational perspective, recovering the myriad sites, knowledge practices, identities and discourses which dynamically shaped early recording cultures. With case studies from China, Australia, the United States, Latin America, Russia, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy, Phonographic Encounters explores moments of interaction and encounter, as well as tensions, between local and global understandings of recording technologies. Drawing on an array of archival sources often previously unavailable in English, it moves beyond western-centric narratives of early phonography and beyond the strict confines of the recording industry. Contributions from media history, musicology, popular music studies, cultural studies, area studies and the history of science and technology make this book a key and innovative resource for understanding early phonography against the backdrop of colonial and global power relations.

Listening to Confraternities offers new perspectives on the contribution of guild and devotional confraternities to the urban phonosphere based on original research and an interdisciplinary approach. Historians of art, architecture, culture, sound, music and the senses consider the ways in which, through their devotional practices, confraternities acted as patrons of music, created their identity through sound and were involved in the everyday musical experience of major cities in early modern Europe. Confraternities have been studied from many different angles, but only rarely as acoustic communities that communicated through sound and whose musical activities delimited the urban spaces in which they were active. The "Iter Italicum" serves as a useful reference work for scholars in the history of philosophy, the sciences, classical learning, grammar and rhetoric, Neolatin literature, historiography of the theory of the arts and of music and related subjects. By scanning the volume or through this index, scholars will be able to find source material for individual writers as well as for certain subjects, problems or themes. By indicating for each manuscript its location and shelf-mark, scholars will find it easier to order microfilms or to pursue more detailed studies of some of the manuscripts listed. The volumes should also prove useful for librarians as a reference for the holdings of their own or other libraries.
