Ernst Friedrich Dumbauld (ca. 1716-1790) immigrated from Switzerland to the Palatinate of Germany, and about 1736 immigrated (via Rotterdam) to Philadelphia. He settled in Frederick County, Maryland, married Elizabeth Hager and about 1766 moved to the Ligonier Valley in what is now Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. After Elizabeth's death, he married widow Christina Harmon. Descendants lived in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, California and elsewhere.

The earliest known ancestor of John Willian Barrick is Hans Peter Berg from Selders, Germany. He died in 1717. His son Johann Wilhelm Berg was born in Selders in 1683. He married Johannetta Maria Catharina Andreas and they emigrated to America, spending some time in New Jersey and finally settling in Frederick County, Maryland.

Most Burbas in the United States appear to be descendants of Peter Burbee or Barbee, born c1729, died 12 June 1778 in Philadelphia. He married Marget (Margaret) Coreco (Carico or Carrico) in 1757. They moved to New Hamshire. Descendants lived in Kentucky, Ohio, Texas, California, Maine, Florida, New York and elsewhere.
