This volume contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Vertex Operator Algebras, Number Theory, and Related Topics, held from June 11–15, 2018, at California State University, Sacramento, California. The mathematics of vertex operator algebras, vector-valued modular forms and finite group theory continues to provide a rich and vibrant landscape in mathematics and physics. The resurgence of moonshine related to the Mathieu group and other groups, the increasing role of algebraic geometry and the development of irrational vertex operator algebras are just a few of the exciting and active areas at present. Vertex operator algebras were introduced to mathematics in the work of Richard Borcherds, Igor Frenkel, James Lepowsky and Arne Meurman as a mathematically rigorous formulation of chiral algebras of two-dimensional conformal field theory. The aim was to use vertex operator algebras to explain and prove the remarkable Monstrous Moonshine conjectures in group theory. The theory of vertex operator algebras has now grown into a major research area in mathematics. This volume contains the proceedings of the Workshop on Homotopy Theory of Function Spaces and Related Topics, which was held at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach, in Germany, from April 5-11, 2009. This volume contains fourteen original research articles covering a broad range of topics that include: localization and rational homotopy theory, evaluation subgroups, free loop spaces, Whitehead products, spaces of algebraic maps, gauge groups, loop groups, operads, and string topology. In addition to reporting on various topics in the area, this volume is supposed to facilitate the exchange of ideas within Homotopy Theory of Function Spaces, and promote cross-fertilization between Homotopy Theory of Function Spaces and other areas. With these latter aims in mind, this volume includes a survey article which, with its extensive bibliography, should help bring researchers and graduate students up to speed on activity in this field as well as a problems list, which is an expanded and edited version of problems discussed in sessions held at the conference. The problems list is intended to suggest directions for future work.
This volume presents the state of the art in several directions of research conducted by renowned mathematicians who participated in the research program on Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations at the Centre for Advanced Study at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, Oslo, Norway, during the academic year 2008-09. The main theme of the volume is nonlinear partial differential equations that model a wide variety of wave phenomena. Topics discussed include systems of conservation laws, compressible Navier-Stokes equations, Navier-Stokes-Korteweg type systems in models for phase transitions, nonlinear evolution equations, degenerate/mixed type equations in fluid mechanics and differential geometry, nonlinear dispersive wave equations (Korteweg-de Vries, Camassa-Holm type, etc.), and Poisson interface problems and level set formulations.
This volume contains the proceedings of the Workshop and 18th International Conference on Representations of Algebras (ICRA 2018) held from August 8–17, 2018, in Prague, Czech Republic. It presents several themes of contemporary representation theory together with some new tools, such as stable ∞ ∞-categories, stable derivators, and contramodules. In the first part, expanded lecture notes of four courses delivered at the workshop are presented, covering the representation theory of finite sets with correspondences, geometric theory of quiver Grassmannians, recent applications of contramodules to tilting theory, as well as symmetries in the representation theory over an abstract stable homotopy theory. The second part consists of six more-advanced papers based on plenary talks of the conference, presenting selected topics from contemporary representation theory: recollements and purity, maximal green sequences, cohomological Hall algebras, Hochschild cohomology of associative algebras, cohomology of local selfinjective algebras, and the higher Auslander–Reiten theory studied via homotopy theory.
Articles in this volume are based on lectures given at three conferences on Geometry at the Frontier, held at the Universidad de la Frontera, Pucón, Chile in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The papers cover recent developments on the theory of algebraic varieties—in particular, of their automorphism groups and moduli spaces. They will be of interest to anyone working in the area, as well as young mathematicians and students interested in complex and algebraic geometry.
This volume contains the proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Arithmetic, Geometry, Cryptography and Coding Theory (AGC2T-17), held from June 10–14, 2019, at the Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques in Marseille, France. The conference was dedicated to the memory of Gilles Lachaud, one of the founding fathers of the AGC2T series. Since the first meeting in 1987 the biennial AGC2T meetings have brought together the leading experts on arithmetic and algebraic geometry, and the connections to coding theory, cryptography, and algorithmic complexity. The Lie Theory Workshop, founded by Joe Wolf (UC, Berkeley), has been running for over two decades. These workshops have been sponsored by the NSF, noting the talks have been seminal in describing new perspectives in the field covering broad areas of current research. At the beginning, the top universities in California and Utah hosted the meetings which continue to run on a quarterly basis. Experts in representation theory/Lie theory from various parts of the US, Europe, Asia (China, Japan, Singapore, Russia), Canada, and South and Central America were routinely invited to give talks at these meetings.
