This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 23rd International Conference on Scientific and Statistical Database Management, SSDBM 2011, held in Portland, OR, USA, in July 2011. The 26 long and 12 short papers presented together with 15 posters were carefully reviewed and selected from 80 submissions. The topics covered are ranked search; temporal data and queries; workflow and provenance; querying graphs; clustering and data mining; architectures and privacy; and applications and models.
Finding patterns in biomolecular data, particularly in DNA and RNA, is at the center of modern biological research. These data are complex and growing rapidly, so the search for patterns requires increasingly sophisticated computer methods. Pattern Discovery in Biomolecular Data provides a clear, up-to-date summary of the principal techniques. Each chapter is self-contained, and the techniques are drawn from many fields, including graph theory, information theory, statistics, genetic algorithms, computer visualization, and vision. Since pattern searches often benefit from multiple approaches, the book presents methods in their purest form so that readers can best choose the method or combination that fits their needs. The chapters focus on finding patterns in DNA, RNA, and protein sequences, finding patterns in 2D and 3D structures, and choosing system components. This volume will be invaluable for all workers in genomics and genetic analysis, and others whose research requires biocomputing.
Proceedings of the 28th Annual International Conference on Very Large Data Bases held in Hong Kong, China on August 20-23, 2002. Organized by the VLDB Endowment, VLDB is the premier international conference on database technology.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Data Integration in the Life Sciences, DILS 2005, held in San Diego, CA, USA in July 2005. The 20 revised full papers presented together with 8 revised posters and demonstration papers, 2 keynote articles and 5 invited position statements were carefully reviewed and selected from 50 initial submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on user applications, ontologies, data integration, and others and address all current issues in data integration from the life science point of view.
Digitization, the global networking of individuals and organizations, and the transition from an industrial to an information society are key reasons for the importance of digital government. In particular, the enormous influence of the Internet as a global networking and communication system affects the performance of public services. This textbook introduces the concept of digital government as well as digital management and provides helpful insights and strategic advice for the successful implementation and maintenance of digital government systems.
Presents papers from the September 1994 conference, plus a poster session addressing issues directly related to data management, and keynote addresses on data infrastructure architecture and object databases for scientific computing. Sessions cover subjects such as interfaces and languages, statistical databases, scientific database management, object-oriented techniques, multidimensional data, and content retrieval from image databases. No index. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR.
Software has become an essential enabler for science and the economy. Not only does it create new markets and the possibility of a more reliable, flexible and robust society, it also empowers our exploration of the world in ever increasing depth. However software often falls short of our expectations, with current methodologies, tools and techniques remaining insufficiently robust and reliable for constantly changing and evolving needs. This book presents papers from the 15th International Conference on New Trends in Intelligent Software Methodology Tools and Techniques (SoMeT 16), held in Larnaca, Cyprus, in September 2016. The SoMeT conference focuses on exploring the innovations, controve...
