This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th IFIP WG 5.5/SOCOLNET Advanced Doctoral Conference on Computing, Electrical and Industrial Systems, DoCEIS 2018, held in Costa de Caparica, Portugal, in May 2018. The 30 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 74 submissions. The papers present selected results produced in engineering doctoral programs and focus on technological innovation for resilient systems. Research results and ongoing work are presented, illustrated and discussed in the following areas: collaborative systems, decision support systems, supervision systems, energy management, smart grids, sensing systems, electrical systems, simulation and analysis, monitoring systems, and energy distribution systems.
Smart Cyber Physical Systems: Advances, Challenges and Opportunities ISBN: 9780367337889 Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) are the new generation of collaborative computational entities, with a prime focus on integration of the physical world and cyber space. Through a feedback mechanism, the system adapts itself to new conditions in real time. The scope of this book includes research experience by experts in CPS infrastructure systems, incorporating sustainability by embedding computing and communication in day-to-day applications. CPS, integrated with Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Big Data, Cloud Computing and Communication, lay a foundation for the fourth industrial ...
The desire for precise knowledge about the location of a moving object at any time instant has motivated a great deal of scientific research recently. This is owing to a steady expansion of the range of enabling devices and technologies, as well as the need for seamless solutions for location-based services. Besides localization accuracy, a common requirement for emerging solutions is that they are cost-abstemious, both in terms of the financial and computational cost. Hence, development of localization strategies from already deployed technologies, e.g., from different terrestrial radio frequency sources is of great practical interest. Amongst other, these include localization strategies ba...
This book discusses new cognitive informatics tools, algorithms and methods that mimic the mechanisms of the human brain which lead to an impending revolution in understating a large amount of data generated by various smart applications. The book is a collection of peer-reviewed best selected research papers presented at the International Conference on Data Intelligence and Cognitive Informatics (ICDICI 2020), organized by SCAD College of Engineering and Technology, Tirunelveli, India, during 8–9 July 2020. The book includes novel work in data intelligence domain which combines with the increasing efforts of artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning and cognitive science to study and develop a deeper understanding of the information processing systems.
This book opens the door to multiobjective optimization for students in fields such as engineering, management, economics and applied mathematics. It offers a comprehensive introduction to multiobjective optimization, with a primary emphasis on multiobjective linear programming and multiobjective integer/mixed integer programming. A didactic book, it is mainly intended for undergraduate and graduate students, but can also be useful for researchers and practitioners. Further, it is accompanied by an interactive software package - developed by the authors for Windows platforms - which can be used for teaching and decision-making support purposes in multiobjective linear programming problems. Thus, besides the textbook’s coverage of the essential concepts, theory and methods, complemented with illustrative examples and exercises, the computational tool enables students to experiment and enhance their technical skills, as well as to capture the essential characteristics of real-world problems.
This book is intended to help explore the field of smart sustainable cities in its complexity, heterogeneity, and breadth, the many faces of a topical subject of major importance for the future that encompasses so much of modern urban life in an increasingly computerized and urbanized world. Indeed, sustainable urban development is currently at the center of debate in light of several ICT visions becoming achievable and deployable computing paradigms, and shaping the way cities will evolve in the future and thus tackle complex challenges. This book integrates computer science, data science, complexity science, sustainability science, system thinking, and urban planning and design. As such, i...
Containing approximately 200 problems (100 worked), the text covers a wide range of topics concerning electrical machines, placing particular emphasis upon electrical-machine drive applications. The theory is concisely reviewed and focuses on features common to all machine types. The problems are arranged in order of increasing levels of complexity and discussions of the solutions are included where appropriate to illustrate the engineering implications. This second edition includes an important new chapter on mathematical and computer simulation of machine systems and revised discussions of unbalanced operation, permanent-magnet machines and universal motors. New worked examples and tutorial problems have also been added.
This book is a collection of peer-reviewed best-selected research papers presented at 4th International Conference on Computer Networks and Inventive Communication Technologies (ICCNCT 2021). The book covers new results in theory, methodology, and applications of computer networks and data communications. It includes original papers on computer networks, network protocols and wireless networks, data communication technologies, and network security. The proceedings of this conference are a valuable resource, dealing with both the important core and the specialized issues in the areas of next-generation wireless network design, control, and management, as well as in the areas of protection, assurance, and trust in information security practice. It is a reference for researchers, instructors, students, scientists, engineers, managers, and industry practitioners for advanced work in the area.
