ETAPS 2002 was the ?fth instance of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. ETAPS is an annual federated conference that was established in 1998by combining a number of existing and new conferences. This year it comprised 5 conferences (FOSSACS, FASE, ESOP, CC, TACAS), 13 satellite workshops (ACL2, AGT, CMCS, COCV, DCC, INT, LDTA, SC, SFEDL, SLAP, SPIN, TPTS, and VISS), 8invited lectures (not including those speci?c to the satellite events), and several tutorials. The events that comprise ETAPS address various aspects of the system - velopment process, including speci?cation, design, implementation, analysis, and improvement. The languages, methodologies, and tools which support these - tivities are all well within its scope. Di?erent blends of theory and practice are represented, with an inclination towards theory with a practical motivation on one hand and soundly-based practice on the other. Many of the issues involved in software design apply to systems in general, including hardware systems, and the emphasis on software is not intended to be exclusive.

Compiler Construction

This book presents the refereed proceedings of the Sixth International Conference on Compiler Construction, CC '96, held in Linköping, Sweden in April 1996. The 23 revised full papers included were selected from a total of 57 submissions; also included is an invited paper by William Waite entitled "Compiler Construction: Craftsmanship or Engineering?". The book reports the state of the art in the area of theoretical foundations and design of compilers; among the topics addressed are program transformation, software pipelining, compiler optimization, program analysis, program inference, partial evaluation, implementational aspects, and object-oriented compilers.

The widespread use of object-oriented languages and Internet security concerns are just the beginning. Add embedded systems, multiple memory banks, highly pipelined units operating in parallel, and a host of other advances and it becomes clear that current and future computer architectures pose immense challenges to compiler designers-challenges th

Combinatorics, Algorithms, Probabilistic and Experimental Methodologies

The First International Symposium on Combinatorics, Algorithms, Probabilistic and Experimental Methodologies was held in Hangzhou, China, in April 2007. The symposium provided an interdisciplinary forum for researchers to share their discoveries and approaches; search for ideas, methodologies, and tool boxes; find better, faster, and more accurate solutions; and develop a research agenda of common interest. This volume constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the symposium. Inside you'll find 46 full papers. They represent some of the most important thinking and advancements in the field. The papers address large data processing problems using different methodologies from major disciplines such as computer science, combinatorics, and statistics.

By presenting state-of-the-art aspects of the theory of computation, this book commemorates the 60th birthday of Neil D. Jones, whose scientific career parallels the evolution of computation theory itself. The 20 reviewed research papers presented together with a brief survey of the work of Neil D. Jones were written by scientists who have worked with him, in the roles of student, colleague, and, in one case, mentor. In accordance with the Festschrift's subtitle, the papers are organized in parts on computational complexity, program analysis, and program transformation.

This monograph presents a new and fundamental approach to software analysis that will provide a source of ideas and inspiration for many years to come. It constitutes a thoroughly revised and extended version of the author's PhD thesis, which was selected as the winning thesis of the 2005 ACM Doctoral Dissertation Competition. Ben Liblit did his PhD work at the University of California, Berkeley, with Alexander Aiken as thesis adviser.

ECOOP '97 - Object-Oriented Programming

'When do the Lebesgue-Bochner function spaces contain a copy or a complemented copy of any of the classical sequence spaces?' This problem and the analogous one for vector- valued continuous function spaces have attracted quite a lot of research activity in the last twenty-five years. The aim of this monograph is to give a detailed exposition of the answers to these questions, providing a unified and self-contained treatment. It presents a great number of results, methods and techniques, which are useful for any researcher in Banach spaces and, in general, in Functional Analysis. This book is written at a graduate student level, assuming the basics in Banach space theory.
