Crossroads: The Louis Lugo Story is the true account of a young kid raised on the streets of New York’s projects—the gangs and a lifestyle of crime would be his mentors into manhood. Follow Louis as he learns to be a hustler, a pusher, and evolves into a man to be afraid of. You will experience this gangster’s struggles every step of the way as he gambles with his life for his piece of the American dream. Serving serious time for serious crimes will be the debt he will have to pay. Yet through it all, Louis knew there were some lines he would not and could not cross. God watched as Louis hit rock bottom and waited patiently for Louis to open his heart to Him. Through the support and encouragement of his wife and his love for his children, Louis applied the skills he learned on the streets to his work as a mentor to those who are still where he once was.
Including a chronicle of his first mescaline experience, a trailer-park confrontation and ending with an unnaturally poignant love story, Screwjack is an exhilarating collection of short stories. As Thompson puts it in his introduction, the three stories here ‘build like Bolero to a faster & wilder climax that will drag the reader relentlessly up a hill, & then drop him off a cliff . . . That is the Desired Effect.’ Amid all the hilarity, Hunter S. Thompson proves just how brilliant a prose stylist he really is. Screwjack is salacious, unsettling, and brutally lyrical. ‘Hunter Thompson elicits the same kind of admiration one would feel for a streaker at Queen Victoria’s funeral’ William F Buckley ‘There are only two adjectives writers care about anymore, brilliant and outrageous, and Hunter S. Thompson has a freehold on both of them’ Tom Wolfe
My name is Ivy Moore. This morning I woke up a 21-year-old overworked waitress, sister, and not much else.6 years ago I watched my mother walk away while I was trapped in the mangled car that held my crippled twin sister and the body of my dead father. It wasn't until I was attacked by monsters that were attracted to my blood that I began to understand. With the help of the local arrogant vampire lord, I learned all about my heritage, about vampires and revenants, about what it was like to live again. About learning to love. While Crispin spent his nights training me to be a deadly killer, someone else was creating an army.I was a Hunter. And someone wanted me for my blood.Important Note: This is the first book in a series, please be aware that it ends in an HFN but the second book picks right up where the first left off.Warning: This book has blood and gore that may offend or disturb sensitive readers. This second edition of a unique text/reference identifies the appearance attributes of objects and the methods available for measuring them, bringing together much material not previously organized for ready reference. The primary premise here is that ``object appearance'' involves not only color, but such attributes as gloss, luster, and translucency. The first part of the book, concerned with nature of appearance, draws from the fields of physiology and psychology and considers the eye-brain combination and the way it receives and interprets light signals. This is followed by a consideration of the optical properties of objects from the physical standpoint. The second part of the book deals with the numerical scales used to measure object appearance. The discussion here draws on psychophysics in describing the uses of physical techniques to give numbers having psychological significance. The third part of the book covers instruments for the measurement of the attributes of object appearance, their principles of design, and a survey of the major ones in use. The final chapter discusses specific applications of appearance measurement. Includes appendixes and a glossary.
