Power and Energy Engineering are important and pressing topics globally, covering issues such as shifting paradigms of energy generation and consumption, intelligent grids, green energy and environmental protection. The 11th Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference (APPEEC 2019) was held in Xiamen, China from April 19 to 21, 2019. APPEEC has been an annual conference since 2009 and has been successfully held in Wuhan (2009 & 2011), Chengdu (2010 & 2017), Shanghai (2012 & 2014), Beijing (2013 & 2015), Suzhou (2016) and Guilin (2018), China. The objective of APPEEC 2019 was to provide scientific and professional interactions for the advancement of the fields of power and energy engineering. APPEEC 2019 facilitated the exchange of insights and innovations between industry and academia. A group of excellent speakers have delivered keynote speeches on emerging technologies in the field of power and energy engineering. Attendees were given the opportunity to give oral and poster presentations and to interface with invited experts.
Standalone (off-grid) renewable energy systems supply electricity in places where there is no access to a standard electrical grid. These systems may include photovoltaic generators, wind turbines, hydro turbines or any other renewable electrical generator. Usually, this kind of system includes electricity storage (commonly lead-acid batteries, but also other types of storage can be used). In some cases, a backup generator (usually powered by fossil fuel, diesel or gasoline) is part of the hybrid system. The modelling of the components, the control of the system and the simulation of the performance of the whole system are necessary to evaluate the system technically and economically. The optimization of the sizing and/or the control is also an important task in this kind of system.
The International Conference on Energy and Mechanical Engineering brought together scientists and engineers from energy and engineering sectors to share and compare notes on the latest development in energy science, automation, control and mechanical engineering. This proceedings compiled and selected 156 articles organized into Energy Science and Technology; Mechanical Engineering; Automation and Control Engineering. Amongst them, are the results and development of Government sponsored research projects undertaken both in universities, research institutes, and across industry, reflecting the state-of-art technological know-how of Chinese scientists.
