This 2015 Article IV Consultation highlights that the earthquakes in April and May and protests and trade disruptions following the promulgation of a new constitution in September have exacerbated the macroeconomic policy challenges facing the Nepalese economy. Real GDP growth is estimated to have decelerated to 3.4 percent in 2014/15 (mid-July 2014 to mid-July 2015) from 5.5 percent in 2013/14. Growth is expected to gradually rebound to about 5.5 percent by 2016/17, as economic activity recovers from the earthquake and reconstruction gains momentum. Inflation is projected to rise to about 8.5 percent over the next 12 months. The medium-term outlook depends importantly on the authorities’ reform efforts.
After years of macroeconomic stability, the global crisis is having a substantial, albeit somewhat delayed, impact on Nepal’s economy and exposing its structural weaknesses. Although the Nepalese rupee appears modestly overvalued, maintaining the peg should remain a key near-term policy objective. Risks in the financial sector are coming to a head and need to be addressed urgently. The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB)’s recent directives are welcome, but enforcement is crucial to their effectiveness. Bank licensing policy needs to be tightened, banking sector consolidation incentivized, and state-controlled bank reform tackled.
: The pedagogical practices of Basic Education Schools in Nepal have been explored extensively in the present book. Four chapters are included in this book. In the first chapter, the ancient education system and the prevailing pedagogical practices at that time have been utterly discussed. Accordingly, in the second chapter, the educational system and pedagogical practices during the Ranas have been analyzed. After this chapter, in the third chapter, education and pedagogical practice of Panchayat Era is explored. And, in the final chapter, existing education and pedagogical practices of Nepal are explored. In this book, each chapter describes the brief political history of that period, the development of education, education policies and the pedagogical practices. Curriculum, subjects of study, teaching method, role of teacher and student, educational administration, assessment procedures financing of school education and physical infrastructure are main subject matters of each chapter. It is hoped that this book will satisfy the various questions related to pedagogical practices at the Basic Education School in Nepal.
