About the Book AN INSIDER’S ACCOUNT OF ONE OF THE MOST SHOCKING CASES TO ROCK INDIA—THE TANDOOR MURDER CASE—BY THE IPS OFFICE IN CHARGE OF INVESTIGATIONS. Naina Sahni’s murder and the discovery of her body being burnt in a tandoor in a restaurant in the heart of Delhi shook the country’s conscience and galvanised the criminal justice system. What exactly happened that night? How did the accused, Sushil Sharma, Naina’s partner and Youth Congress leader, manage to stave off conviction for more than a decade? What were the twists and turns in the case and how did the investigation manage to stay the course? Maxwell Pereira, who was in charge of the case, gives us an insider’s account of events as they unfolded, based on his notes and investigation reports as well as the many stories that appeared in the media. A page-turner of a book, forthright and dramatic, with unexpected nuggets of information and insights into the way the policing, legal and political systems work in India, by someone who has seen it all.

After the success of one of her assignments at NDTV, covering the 2009 election campaign, she authored Braking News. Sunetra anchors a daily, audience-based show called Agenda – the only out-of-studio show of its kind – and a primetime show on student leaders and elections. In April 2016, she got the Red Ink award for her story on how Indians were adopting disabled children.

‘[Ajith’s book] is the first full account I have seen between hard covers which is exclusively about a journalist’s adventures and journeys in the field... An extraordinary first “rough draft of history”, a portrait of India from the 80s to the present time.’ – Vinod Mehta ‘Ajith Pillai’s account of his journalistic odyssey covers the period of India’s Great Transformation from the 1980s to the present. He does so with incisive wit and insight into a breathtaking range of issues. This ought to be a handbook for all aspiring journalists, since Pillai is an enemy of sycophantic corporate ideology and craven submissiveness to wealth and power which characterize most of today...
