This book is not about so-called alternative medicine. It is about standard, orthodox medicine that had many good treatments for cancer up until the early 20th century. For reasons of power and control of the population, it was decided around 1910 that only radiation and surgery would be the approved treatments (and chemo was later added in the 1950s). Maxwell shows how physicians who tried to use the older methods were threatened with loss of their medical license or were more harshly punished. These include Emanuel Revici, Virginia Livingston, and Robert Lincoln. She also argues that Edward Jenner engaged on fraud re smallpox vaccination.

Transport Spectroscopy of Confined Fractional Quantum Hall Systems
This book provides an overview of recent developments in experiments probing the fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states of the second Landau level, especially the \nu=5/2 state. It summarizes the state-of-the-art understanding of these FQH states. It furthermore describes how the properties of the FQH states can be probed experimentally, by investigating tunneling and confinement properties. The progress towards the realization of an experiment, allowing to probe the potentially non-Abelian statistics of the quasiparticle excitations at \nu=5/2 is discussed. The book is intended as a reference for graduate students, PostDocs and researchers starting in the field. The experimental part of this book gives practical advice for solving the experimental challenges which researchers studying highly fragile FQH states are faced with.

Handbook of Urban and Community Forestry in the Northeast
With the emergence of urban and community forestry as the fastest growing part of our pro fession in the last 15 years, the need for a book such as this inevitably developed. The So ciety of American Foresters' urban forestry working group counts 32 or more universities now offering courses in this subject, and the number is growing. For the last several years I have coordinated a continuing education urban forestry course at Rutgers for nonmatriculated students. Registrants have included arborists, shade tree commissioners, landscape architects, city foresters, environmental commissioners, park superintendents, and others whose jobs involve care and management of trees. The course was started by Bob Tate in 1980, around a core of managerial subjects such as in ventories, budgets, and public relations. After Bob left in 1984 to join Asplundh and later to start his own prosperous business in California, the course languished after it exhausted the local market for those subjects.
