Der Autor untersucht vier Perikopen im Alten und Neuen Testament: Ps 98; Jes 52,7–10; Lk 2,29–32 und 3,4–6. Sein Ziel ist es, den Gedanken des Heils anhand des Theologumenons "Das Heil unseres Gottes schauen" als Zusage und Versprechen Gottes an die Menschen in einer kanonisch-intertextuellen exegetischen Untersuchung nachzuvollziehen. Es geht dabei insbesondere darum, den Begriff des Heils in seiner Dialektik von eschatologischer Zusage einerseits und keimhafter Erfahrung im Hier und Jetzt andererseits auszuleuchten – eine Dialektik, die in der Wendung "das Heil unseres Gottes schauen" angelegt ist. In den vier Perikopen kommt dieser Wendung vor. Methodologisch verortet sich die Untersuchung im Bereich von Georg Steins Ansatz einer kanonisch-intertextuellen Lektüre, der seinerseits in literaturtheoretischer Hinsicht auf den Konzeptionen von Intertextualität nach Michail M. Bachtin und Julia Kristeva basiert und andererseits bibeltheologisch auf Brevard S. Childs Ansatz einer kanonischen Exegese beruht.
