From the complex family dynamics of a small English village to the lasting scars of childhood, Edna Watson is both cantankerous and compassionate—the woman that you love to hate. When her cousin calls to report her father’s passing, Edna sees a chance for closure of a shocking incident that happened when she was five years old. But attending her Uncle’s funeral means confronting the memory that has dogged her life with shame and insecurity. A stranger wants to buy her house and despite her protestations, he seems intent on bullying her into submission. Why is her house so important to him? Opening a previously unopened box belonging to her late mother, Edna revisits painful memories she’s tried to forget whilst uncovering life changing and distressing secrets. Can she face her demons and heal decades-old wounds, or will the terrible circumstances of her childhood destroy her last chance for peace? That Terrible Woman is a powerful and bittersweet novel of love and hate, loss and resentment, the corrosive effects of long-held grudges, and the redemption found in forgiveness.

This book is a study of the psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy of creativity, originality, and inspiration viewed from the lens of a seasoned game developer. It introduces the concept of creative sobriety—a practice that advocates better understanding our own sources of inspiration so that we can intellectually drive our creative voice closer to originality. The creative process is an improvised dance between the conscious and the subconscious mind, where knowledge, experience, intuition, observation, imagination, and projection meet in ways that are completely unique to each person. Presenting practical and theoretical approaches to originality and game concept generation, this book explores the notion of creative sobriety before moving to chapters that blend theory and practice, covering topics such as innovation, the creative process, auteurship, collaboration, and creative vision. This book will be of great interest to students of game design and creative professionals working within the industry as well as those looking to learn more about the creative process.

Cystitis - Updates and Challenges

Among inflammatory disorders of the urinary tract, cystitis is the most common. A significant increase in the prevalence of this condition is reported by epidemiological investigations, and its diagnostic and therapeutic approach often represents a challenge. Bacterial cystitis is becoming difficult to treat, especially if chronic or recurrent, due to the increase of drug resistance among the responsible pathogens. Chronic non-infectious cystitis is also difficult to treat because its pathophysiologic mechanisms are still not completely understood. This book provides a comprehensive overview of bladder inflammation, focusing on etiopathogenesis, pathophysiology, and diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to the main types of infectious and non-infectious cystitis in both adults and children. It also addresses radiation cystitis as well as iatrogenic cystitis.

The expression of “collectivity” in Romance languages

Evolutionary Biology and Ecology of Ostracoda

Evolutionary Biology and Ecology of Ostracoda

Ostracoda (Crustacea) are potentially excellent model organisms for evolutionary studies, because they combine an extensive fossil record with a wide recent distribution and therefore allow studies on both patterns and processes leading to extant diversity. The main scientific domains contributing theories, concepts, and data to evolutionary biology are morphology (including ontogeny), palaeontology, genetics, and ecology, and to all of these aspects ostracods can contribute. This is clearly illustrated by the fifteen papers presented under Theme 3 of the 13th International Symposium on Ostracoda (Chatham, UK) in 1997 which are grouped in the present proceedings, one of three volumes resulting from this meeting. The contributions deal with the evolution of both extant and fossil forms (including most of the Phanaerozoic), ecology of both marine and freshwater taxa, and (developmental) morphology of both soft parts and valves. Although the canvas is wide, each paper clearly shows how studies on Ostracoda can be relevant to general theory on evolutionary biology and ecology.
