Apalah erti merdeka apabila masih ada kelompok yang miskin kelaparan, nasib wanita yang diperkotak-katikkan, meraikan kebebalan dan pembodohan, menolak semangat kemanusiaan dan kebersamaan, meraikan keradikalan ketimbang keharmonian, tunduk bersujud pada zalimnya kekuasaan dan mengangkat kecurangan lebih dari kejujuran. Serangan terhadap jiwa merdeka berlaku dalam pelbagai ranah termasuklah cara berfikir dan tindakan. Merdeka belum berjiwa yang menjadi tanda tanya harus diselesaikan segera jika tidak dekaden akan menjenguk bangsa.

Jurnal Sang Pemula merupakan satu pertubuhan kecil yang terdiri daripada 12 anak muda dan di bawah pimpinan Dr Azhar Ibrahim. Tanpa dana besar, tanpa tujuan menjana ratusan ringgit, apatah lagi menjadi popular. Tujuan JSP digerakkan cuma satu iaitu berkongsi ide buat masyarakat (khususnya anak muda) kembali mempersoal, mengkritik, memikirkan dan menganalisis apa yang berlaku di sekeliling mereka. Lebih-lebih lagi ketika negara sedang berhadapan dengan ide-ide jumud.
