Chemical defence by means of toxins poisonous to other organisms, be they animals or plants, is widespread amongst the plant kingdom - including microorganisms as well. This book embraces the analysis of a wide range of plant toxins and this fills a gap in the plant pathology and ecological biochemistry fields. The topics covered include toxic extracellular enzymes, host selective toxins, elicitors, phototoxins, aflatoxins, mycotoxins, and ecotoxic substance tests by pollen germination and growth. Tropentag is the largest interdisciplinary conference in Europe on developmentoriented research in the fields of tropical and subtropical agriculture, food security, natural resource management and rural development. Normally, the Tropentag takes place annually. However, for reasons that by now have become obvious, the past two years have been particularly challenging. We are therefore, delighted that the University of Hohenheim managed to host a hybrid version of the conference from 15𝑡ℎ to 17𝑡ℎ September 2021. Being a hybrid conference, it was pleasing to note that people did not only gather in one of the lecture theatres at the University of Hohenheim but also in one of the state-of-the art seminar rooms at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. The rest, of course, attended via Zoom meetings being streamed on YouTube channels using the Whova online platform.

Tropentag is the largest interdisciplinary conference in Europe on development oriented research in the fields of sub-/tropical agriculture, food security, natural resource management and rural development. Taking place annually, Tropentag 2020 turned out to be a special challenge. Originally planned to take place in Prague, the Corona pandemic did not allow presence in or travel to Prague for prospective participants. Cassava is a staple food for many nations owing to its resilience for growth under various climatic conditions. It is a good source of carbohydrates and is the third largest source of food carbohydrates in the tropics, after rice and maize. This book focuses on the morphological traits and nutritive properties of cassava and its production processes, postharvest techniques and diseases that affect the growth of the crop. Given its extensive usage and market value, it is one of the agricultural produces for which many biotechnological interventions have been applied for ascertaining food security. Plant genomics aims to sequence, characterize, and study the genetic compositions, structures, organizations, functions, and interactions/networks of an entire plant genome. Its development and advances are tightly interconnected with proteomics, metabolomics, metagenomics, transgenomics, genomic selection, bioinformatics, epigenomics, phenomics, system biology, modern instrumentation, and robotics sciences. Plant genomics has significantly advanced over the past three decades in the land of inexpensive, high-throughput sequencing technologies and fully sequenced over 100 plant genomes.
