Aflatoxins in Food
Mycotoxins are the metabolites of fungus and are reported to contaminate nearly 25% of the food produced worldwide. The mycotoxins of most significance are the aflatoxins due to their severe health implications and their prevalence in food commodities on a larger scale. Aflatoxins are produced by certain species of fungi the most prominent among which are Aspergillus flavus, A. parasiticus and A. nominous. Final evaluation of “Strengthening national policy and knowledge framework in support of sustainable management of Brazil’s forest resources”
The sustainable utilization of natural resources is a major element of rural livelihoods and economic development in Brazil. From 2011 to 2019, FAO implemented the project “Strengthening the national knowledge and information framework to foster sustainable forest resources management policies". This project helped to establish and consolidate a National Forest Inventory (NFI) model approved by, and agreed with, different partners and stakeholders in the forest sector. The focus given to institutional strengthening and data collection was strategic to achieve an unprecedented level of qualified knowledge on the topic. To date, there is some evidence on the use of NFI results for policymaking, promotion of sustainable management of forest resources, and biodiversity conservation. NFI results were also used in international forums and documents such as Global Forest Resources Assessments (FRA) 2020.

Stuck in a Non-place
This books is the product of research conducted in the Brazilian Border with Bolívia in 2013, where a migrant temporary shelter hosted, under a humanitarian visa, hundreds of Haitians that had fled several stages of human insecurity back in their homeland. In order to survive and with the dream of leaving soon, migrants strategise their relationships and harnest social navigation skills. This fieldwork was part of the Master of Social and Cultural Anthropology programa at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, for which the author was granted a VU Scholarship.
